Outlane
From PinWiki
Outlanes are ball paths that allow the ball to drain from the playfield without any possibility of being saved by the main flippers (unlike inlanes which return the ball to the flippers). On most games there are two outlanes, one on each side of the playfield, and they are generally the right- and left-most paths for the ball to take.
A number of games provide a kickback mechanism to shoot the ball back up the outlane before it reaches the drain (for example: White Water). Similarly, other games provide a flipper or kicker to save the ball from the outlane, knocking the ball through a gate and into the inlanes. Examples of this include Embryon and Strange Science.
On some games balls draining from the outlanes can be saved by means of a skilled move called a bang back.
