Medieval Madness is a pinball machine produced in 1997 by Williams. The game pits the player against the evil King of Payne and each of his 5 men (Sir Psycho, The Duke of Bourbon, Francois de Grimm, Lord Howard Hurtz, and the Earl of Ego). The player must destroy each of their castles, ending with the King of Payne's, in order to rule the Kingdom himself. Along the way he can launch catapult strikes, compete in jousting tournaments, incite peasant revolts, defeat dragons and rescue damsels, and of course battle trolls.
Medieval Madness is generally considered one of the most sought-after pinball machines of all time. Its accessible theme, humorous one-liners, and playfield toys all contribute to its popularity. It is also known for Brian Eddy's inspired design, which through the use of "split level" ramps and careful placement of other elements such as the drawbridge lowers the risk of missed shots going straight down the middle.
